FAQs

What is coaching?

Coaching is an exploration that helps you achieve your goals in your work and life. As your coach, I ask questions to help you explore and envision a variety of perspectives, and support you on your coaching journey. Coaches are partners who work to help keep you accountable as you take steps toward your personal goals.

How are coaching and therapy different?

Therapists are licensed professionals who diagnose and treat specific mental health illnesses. Coaches are accredited professionals who work with clients to achieve specific goals not related to mental health illnesses. Therapy helps you to heal, while coaching helps you to achieve specific goals.

I am a PhD psychologist, but I do not provide psychotherapy services. If you are seeking help for a diagnosed mental health condition or are struggling with extreme distress, a licensed therapist in your state can help. What can I expect when beginning coaching?

Before beginning coaching, I invite you to reach out to learn more about what coaching is about. Iā€™d love to talk with you!

Once we begin coaching, we will discuss your goals, challenges, and what brings you to coaching. Throughout our work together, we will periodically revisit those goals and challenges and perhaps discover additional ones.

How frequently do we meet?

The frequency of our meetings is up to you and your schedule. It is generally best to have some time between coaching sessions to consider and practice strategies that we discuss. Typically, coaching sessions will be 1-3 weeks apart, but can certainly be more or less frequent to meet your unique needs.

How are sessions conducted?

I am currently conducting coaching sessions entirely virtually. For those local to the Washington, DC area, in-person sessions will be possible again once the pandemic is sufficiently resolved. Payment is typically by Zelle; other options are available as needed.
